Amid escalating tensions following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s call for a “do-or-die” protest in Islamabad, religious scholars have urged political leaders to act responsibly. They expressed concern that the ongoing protests and sit-ins were damaging the nation.
A meeting of the Kul Masalik Ulema Board took place in Lahore on Sunday, chaired by Maulana Asim Makhdoom. Prominent figures like Allama Mohsin Golrawi, Qari Khalid Mahmood, Agha Saghir Abbas Virk, and Allama Muhammad Badr also attended.
The scholars emphasized the need for dialogue among political groups. They pointed out that if PTI leaders could meet with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, they should also be open to discussions with the current government.
The ulema also drew attention to the violence in Kurram, particularly in Parachinar, where numerous lives have been lost. They criticized political leaders for prioritizing their power struggles over addressing the crisis in the area.
Meanwhile, PTI’s convoy, led by Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, left Peshawar for Islamabad. In response, the government has tightened security. Major roads leading to the capital have been blocked with containers, and additional barricades have been set up to control movement.
PTI leaders claim that 490 workers and leaders from Punjab have been arrested so far. They also allege that over 100 members are missing.
The political unrest caused by PTI protests has sparked widespread debate. Religious scholars continue to stress the importance of unity and cooperation among political leaders to safeguard the country’s stability.
