RAWALPINDI: Terrorism remains a significant threat as security forces apprehended five militants, also referred to as “Khawarij,” during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Pishin. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the operation on Saturday.
The forces seized a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives, including three suicide vests. These militants were linked to various terrorist attacks and were reportedly planning to target both security personnel and innocent civilians. This operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, which has seen a worrying increase recently.
According to the third quarterly report (Q3) from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), fatalities from terrorism have already surpassed last year’s total. So far this year, 1,534 deaths have been recorded, compared to 1,523 for all of 2023. The third quarter alone saw 722 fatalities, which included civilians, security forces, and criminals. In addition, 615 people were injured across 328 recorded incidents.
Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are at the forefront of the battle against terrorism, facing the highest number of attacks. Separately, the ISPR reported another IBO in Balochistan’s Zhob district on Thursday, where two militants were killed. During this operation, additional weapons and ammunition were recovered.
Pakistan’s security forces are determined to eradicate terrorism and protect civilians from this threat. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the military’s efforts. He stated, “The entire nation, including myself, pays tribute to the brave Pakistan Army soldiers and officers for purging the country from Fitna al-Khawarij.” He emphasized that the nation stands united with the armed forces against those who seek to create unrest and instability.
These recent intelligence-based operations follow last week’s actions, where four terrorists were neutralized in separate operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The fight against terrorism continues to be a top priority for Pakistan’s security forces.
