A terrorist attack on the Quboolkhel checkpost of the Esakhel police in Mianwali district was successfully foiled early today. A group of 12 to 14 heavily armed terrorists, equipped with rocket launchers and hand grenades, targeted the checkpost in a daring assault. The attack led to a fierce exchange of fire between the attackers and the police.
The Esakhel police, stationed at the Quboolkhel checkpost, responded swiftly and effectively, managing to repel the terrorist attack. As the police force retaliated with full force, the terrorists fled the scene. A spokesperson for Mianwali District Police Officer Akhtar Farooq confirmed the successful defense, stating that the attackers escaped as the police countered the assault.
The Esakhel DSP and SHO were on-site with a significant police contingent when the attack took place. Two policemen sustained minor injuries during the encounter but remained steadfast in their duty. Following the terrorist attack, a large-scale search operation was launched to track down the fleeing terrorists. Authorities suspect that the attackers may have suffered severe casualties during the clash.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar lauded the bravery and quick response of the officers stationed at the Quboolkhel checkpost. He praised their efforts in preventing the attack, noting that this incident marks the ninth assault on the Punjab police in recent months. Dr. Anwar reaffirmed that the Punjab police act as an “iron wall” against terrorists along the border checkposts.
