MIANWALI: Punjab, over a dozen terrorists attacked the Qabool Khel police checkpost, injuring two policemen. The attackers, estimated to be around 12 to 14 in number, used rockets and hand grenades during the assault, as reported by a police spokesperson.
Punjab Police successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a checkpost in Mianwali, with the attackers fleeing the scene. Two policemen were injured in the attack. Following the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police Isa Khel, along with additional personnel, arrived at the checkpost to manage the situation. Last month, a similar attack occurred in Rahim Yar Khan, where bandits targeted police vans with rockets. The assault, which took place in the Machka area, resulted in the deaths of 12 policemen, injuries to six others, and five officers going missing. The police vans were trapped in rainwater during the attack.
Militant attacks in Pakistan have increased since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021. The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, have been particularly affected. Last year, Balochistan experienced 170 militant attacks, causing the deaths of 151 civilians and 114 security personnel. The Pakistani government blames the Taliban for not eliminating militants operating from Afghan territory. In response, the federal cabinet approved Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in June, a new national counter-terrorism campaign aimed at addressing the growing threat of terrorism, following recommendations from the Central Apex Committee
