In a tragic incident near Lachi Toll Plaza on the Kohat Indus Highway, four individuals, including three police personnel, lost their lives in an attack early Wednesday morning. Unidentified assailants targeted both the toll plaza and a security check post, resulting in these casualties.
In a swift response to the distressing reports, substantial forces from the police and Pakistan Army promptly arrived at the scene. Security personnel cordoned off the entire area, launching an extensive search operation to apprehend the assailants believed to be hiding in the nearby mountainous region.
This recent attack in Kohat comes shortly after an incident just two days prior, where an army soldier sacrificed his life in an encounter with terrorists in North Waziristan. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that security forces successfully engaged the terrorists, apprehending one in an injured state. Havildar Muhammad Zahir, aged 41, valiantly laid down his life during the intense exchange of fire.
The ISPR reported ongoing efforts to sanitize the area and eliminate any remaining terrorists. The statement underscored the unwavering determination of Pakistan’s Security Forces to eradicate the menace of terrorism, acknowledging the significance of the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers.
According to data from the Department of Interior and Tribal Affairs KP, areas most affected by terrorism include Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur, and Tank. Additionally, Dera Ismail Khan, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan are identified as terror-affected regions. Last year witnessed a total of 1,050 terrorism incidents in KP, with 419 in the arranged districts and 631 in the merged districts, according to documents from the Home and Tribal areas.
