WhatsApp has introduced a new feature for iOS users, allowing an alternative method for account login. While not officially announced by Meta, reports from WABetaInfo confirm the rollout of this feature.
This functionality enables users to log in using their email address, serving as a backup method alongside the traditional SMS verification. While it doesn’t replace SMS verification, it proves useful when users are unable to receive the six-digit code via SMS.
The email verification feature becomes particularly handy when users try to sign in on a new device in areas with no mobile network coverage or when they prefer to use WhatsApp without inserting a SIM card into a new phone.
It’s important to note that this email verification is an additional option and does not replace the requirement of entering a phone number for creating a new WhatsApp account. The user’s email address will solely be utilized for account access and won’t be visible to other users.
How to use this feature?
For iPhone users to access this feature, it is imperative to update WhatsApp to the latest version. Following the update, users can navigate to Settings within the app and select the Account option.
Within the Account section, an option for email login will be visible. Users can enable this option and proceed to register their email address.
It’s worth noting that the availability of this feature for Android users remains uncertain.
Additionally, WhatsApp, under the ownership of Meta, has been actively introducing various privacy features in recent months. Users now have access to tools such as IP address protection, passkeys support, and other enhancements. Moreover, the testing phase for a username feature is currently underway.
