Security forces killed 17 terrorists in Balochistan during two intelligence-based operations in Kachhi and Kharan districts, while a soldier embraced martyrdom in an exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted the operations on November 1 after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants linked to what the military described as Indian-sponsored terrorist groups.
In Kachhi district, security forces launched an operation in the Sanni area after reports that militants were attempting to establish a roadblock. Troops foiled the attempt and killed 10 terrorists during an exchange of fire.
Security personnel also recovered weapons and ammunition from the site.
In a separate operation in Kharan district, security forces raided a suspected terrorist hideout. Seven terrorists were killed during an intense exchange of fire, while weapons and ammunition were recovered.
However, Sepoy Hikmat Ullah lost his life during the operation. The 25-year-old soldier belonged to Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ISPR said security forces had launched sanitisation operations in the areas to ensure that no other militants remained in the vicinity.
It added that security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their counterterrorism efforts under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative.
The initiative was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan to strengthen efforts against terrorism and eliminate networks allegedly supported from abroad.
