At least eight people were killed in Shikarpur and five others were injured after a religious standard carried during a Muharram procession came into contact with overhead power lines in Budho village of Sindh.
According to rescue officials, the incident occurred during a Muharram procession when the standard, locally known as an Alam, struck electricity wires, causing a deadly electric shock.
Local residents and rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted the injured and the deceased to nearby hospitals. After receiving initial treatment, the injured were referred to hospitals in Sukkur and Larkana for further medical care.
Soon after receiving reports of the incident, the deputy commissioner, senior police officials, and other administrative authorities reached the site to oversee rescue and relief efforts. A former federal minister also visited the area and offered condolences to the bereaved families.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are closely monitoring the situation. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over Budho village, where residents are mourning the loss of lives.
