ISLAMABAD: The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) held its 11th Apex Committee meeting on Thursday. The session focused on reviewing multiple initiatives under the council’s umbrella.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired the meeting. It was attended by the Chief of Army Staff, federal ministers, provincial chief ministers, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan, and senior government officials.
The Secretary of the Apex Committee presented a detailed briefing on SIFC’s strategic goals and contributions. These efforts align with the National Economic Transformation Plan 2024-2029, also known as “Uraan Pakistan.” The committee expressed satisfaction with the improving macroeconomic conditions and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts for sustained economic growth. It stressed the need to ensure that economic benefits reach the public.
During the meeting, the committee approved the Action Plan for Optimizing Special Economic Zones (SEZs). This initiative aims to revitalize Pakistan’s industrial landscape. The forum also reviewed the proposed National Minerals Harmonization Framework, developed with input from all stakeholders.
Discussions extended to initiatives in Human Resource Development (HRD). The council emphasized the importance of improving skills and securing international-standard accreditations. Provincial chief ministers also shared updates on local projects designed to boost economic growth in their respective regions.
The Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed the military’s commitment to supporting government initiatives. He emphasized the Army’s role in maintaining peace and security to foster economic stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded the meeting by appreciating SIFC’s role in setting the foundation for future economic activities in 2025. He acknowledged the efforts of ministries, departments, and stakeholders. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of collective action at all levels to advance the nation’s interests.
