The Ayat Noor murder case has taken a tragic turn after the body of the five-year-old, missing for nearly two weeks from Pathan Colony in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Haripur district, was recovered from a well near University Road.
According to police sources, investigators believe the child was subjected to sexual assault before being killed, with her body then disposed of in the well. The discovery has left the local community in deep shock and grief.
Community Outrage Follows Discovery
News of the child’s death triggered widespread anger among residents, many of whom had already gathered in large numbers at Siddique Akbar Chowk in the preceding days to demand answers and protest the delay in finding her.
Police said Ayat Noor had gone missing from near her home roughly fifteen days earlier. Investigators used modern forensic tools and CCTV footage during the search, which eventually captured her being led away by a boy, providing the first major breakthrough in the case.
Acting on that footage, police detained the primary suspect along with several associates. Officers have so far arrested five suspects in connection with the case, most of them under the age of sixteen and residents of the same neighbourhood where the child lived.
During questioning, the main suspect reportedly confessed before a magistrate, admitting that the child was taken to a nearby open ground where the assault took place. However, the suspects have not disclosed further details about how or when the body was moved to the well.
Father’s Emotional Appeal Went Viral Before Recovery
Before her body was found, a video of Ayat Noor’s father pleading for help had circulated widely on social media, drawing public attention to the case. In the emotional clip, he said that fourteen days had passed since his daughter went missing and that he had exhausted every avenue in search of justice, without success.
He appealed for assistance, saying he was a poor man asking for help in finding his daughter, and that his distress had left him unable to sleep.
Following the recovery of her body, tensions in the area remain high. Protesters and angry residents are demanding that authorities hand down exemplary punishment to those in custody, calling for strict action to prevent similar tragedies from happening to other children in the future.
Police officials say legal proceedings against the suspects are moving forward quickly, with the goal of bringing them to trial as soon as possible.
