Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir paid a visit to the Pakistan Ordnance Factory in Wah, where he examined the facility’s manufacturing output and its push toward greater self-reliance in weapons production. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the visit in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the military’s media wing, the trip centered on assessing the factory’s production strength, its potential for export growth, and its broader role in supporting Pakistan’s defence industrial base.
While on site, Asim Munir received briefings covering multiple facets of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory’s operations, including how the complex contributes to national defence through developing and manufacturing a wide array of military hardware domestically.
Munir Reviews Weapons Trials and Indigenisation Progress
The army chief also observed live tests and trials of arms and ammunition designed and built within the country, underscoring POF’s focus on innovation and building independent defence manufacturing capacity.
During the same visit, officials updated Munir on the status of the corporatisation drive now underway following the passage of the Defence Industrial Production and Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Dipra) Ordinance. This regulatory shift marks a notable step in reshaping how Pakistan’s defence production sector is governed.
He was further briefed on upgrade and indigenisation initiatives currently in progress, including two new industrial plants that officials expect to become operational before the year ends.
The ISPR noted that the visit reflected the military leadership’s continued emphasis on strengthening indigenous production, expanding technological capability, and reducing reliance on imported defence equipment.
