A clash between Indian Army and police in occupied Kashmir has surfaced after police in Kishtwar registered a case against several army personnel over an alleged attack on a police station.
According to Indian media reports, dozens of personnel from the 17 Rashtriya Rifles allegedly entered the Atholi police station in Kishtwar district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir by scaling the boundary wall.
Reports said that around 40 armed soldiers carrying weapons and sticks entered the station and allegedly assaulted police officers and damaged property inside the premises.
Police have registered an FIR against several army personnel, including a Major and a Commanding Officer, on charges that include attempted murder and assault.
According to the FIR, the attack was premeditated and the soldiers allegedly intended to target police personnel on duty.
Indian newspaper The Hindu reported that the incident has highlighted growing tensions between security institutions in the region.
This is not the first reported clash between security personnel in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Similar incidents involving the army, police and paramilitary forces have been reported in the past.
The latest clash has once again drawn attention to coordination issues and tensions among security forces deployed in the disputed region.
