ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl-ur-Rehman (JUI-F) 60 days to conduct its intra-party elections.
A three-member commission, led by the Chief Election Commissioner, addressed the case, during which a junior lawyer represented JUI-F. The lawyer stated that the party’s elections are being held in phases, with considerable time devoted to the selection of district units. He submitted documents outlining the election schedule.
The lawyer informed the ECP that the intra-party election process began in July and requested the full 60 days for its completion. The Chief Election Commissioner noted that 60 days seemed excessive, to which the lawyer responded that ongoing constitutional reforms were causing delays.

Chief ECP Sikandar Sultan Raja asserted that the issue of constitutional reforms should not interfere with intra-party elections. He also reminded the JUI-F that federal elections are scheduled for September 29, after which there would be no additional time granted.
Following this discussion, the ECP adjourned the hearing, officially allowing JUI-F 60 days to conduct the elections, with the date for the next hearing to be announced later.
During an earlier hearing on August 29, the ECP had indicated that JUI-F’s organizational structure was compromised due to delays in holding intra-party elections. Additionally, the commission had summoned Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman for failing to conduct the elections or submit the necessary certification to the ECP.
