The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken the decision to postpone the general elections in four constituencies across the national and provincial assemblies.
The unfortunate deaths of candidates led to this postponement, impacting one national constituency (NA-8 Bajaur) and three provincial constituencies (PK-22 Bajaur, PK-91 Kohat, and PP-266 Rahim Yar Khan XII).
The assassination of independent candidate Rehan Zeb Khan in NA-8 Bajaur prompted the cancellation of elections for both the national and provincial constituencies he was contesting.
Additionally, the passing of Asmat Ullah Khan led to the postponement of elections in NA-91 Kohat-II, and Israr Hussain’s demise resulted in the delay of elections in PP-266 Rahim Yar Khan XII.
The ECP, invoking the powers granted to returning officers under Section 73 of the Election Act, 2017, announced the abrupt conclusion of proceedings in these constituencies.
The remaining candidates will not be required to submit fresh nomination papers or deposit further dues once the revised schedule is released, as stated by the election regulator’s spokesperson.
