ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday arrested five officials of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) in connection of corruption probe.
According to the FIA, the suspects were caught red-handed in Islamabad while accepting a bribe amounting to crores of rupees. Media reports day that the bribes were given to influence the auditing process at IESCO.
The arrested individuals include Zeeshan Ali, Nazir Hussain, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Jahangir Ahmed, and Saqib Saghir. Zeeshan Ali Akbar, appointed as an Audit Officer, and Nazir Hussain, serving as an Assistant Audit Officer, are among those implicated. The arrests followed a nomination by the Deputy Director and Procurement and Coordination office in Lahore, related to operations within the IESCO Jhelum circle and the regional manager’s office in Islamabad.
The FIA apprehended the suspects on GT Road, Gujar Khan, seizing 17.5 million rupees and an additional 4,000 rupees in cash.
The Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad has registered a case against the accused. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are anticipated based on information provided by the detained suspects.
