Field Marshal Asim Munir leaves for Iran at a crucial time as reports suggest major progress in talks between Iran and the United States. Security sources said the Chief of Defence Force and Chief of Army Staff departed on an official visit to Tehran, where he is expected to meet senior Iranian leaders and discuss key regional developments.
According to sources, the visit will focus on the ongoing Iran-US talks and the changing security situation in the Middle East. Pakistan has reportedly been playing an important diplomatic role behind the scenes to help reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Reports claimed that a final draft agreement between the United States and Iran has been prepared with Pakistan’s support. An official announcement regarding the development could come soon.
The proposed agreement reportedly includes an immediate and complete ceasefire between the two countries. Both sides are also expected to avoid targeting each other’s military and strategic installations under the draft plan.
The agreement further suggests the creation of a joint monitoring system to oversee the ceasefire and support regional peace efforts. Another key point in the reported draft is the guarantee of safe navigation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
The report also stated that sanctions on Iran may be removed gradually if Tehran follows the agreed conditions. Talks on other unresolved issues are expected to begin within a week after the agreement becomes active.
Field Marshal Asim Munir leaves for Iran as diplomatic activity in the region continues to increase. However, neither Pakistan, Iran nor the United States has officially confirmed the reported agreement so far.
Pakistan has recently stepped up diplomatic engagement with Iran, with Field Marshal Asim Munir previously holding meetings with top Iranian leaders to discuss regional peace and stability.
