Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid, former interior minister, has been arrested in the May 9 attack case after his bail application was rejected in Rawalpindi.
The arrest followed the dismissal of his bail in a case related to arson and siege at an intelligence agency’s office.
Previously, Sheikh Rashid’s bail, along with his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq and others, was approved in the GHQ attack case.
The Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi Judge Malik Asif Ejaz announced the reserved verdict in the GHQ attack case after completing arguments from both parties.
Sheikh Rashid, expressing health concerns, asserted his innocence to the media, claiming he had no involvement in the May 9 incident.
He highlighted a media talk ban imposed by the court and affirmed his intent to contest elections despite challenges.
The court, while extending interim bail till January 9, expressed dissatisfaction over incomplete case records during previous hearings and directed the completion of the investigation.
