Imran Khan Will Serve Full Sentence, No Talks on Release: KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi was the clear and unambiguous message delivered by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan will have to complete his punishment in full and will not be given any form of NRO. Speaking to a private television channel, the governor categorically ruled out any possibility of discussions regarding Imran Khan’s release, even if negotiations with PTI were to take place at any level.
Faisal Karim Kundi emphasized that any future dialogue with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would strictly focus on broader political issues and national stability, not on securing relief for a single individual. He said that PTI has repeatedly attempted to personalize national politics around one leader, ignoring the wider consequences for governance and public welfare. According to him, the law must take its course and political pressure cannot be allowed to override judicial decisions.
The KP governor also revealed that the federal government has not formally consulted the Pakistan Peoples Party on the issue of talks with PTI. He added that if there were genuine and serious efforts toward negotiations, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would have publicly addressed the matter. Faisal Karim Kundi expressed strong reservations about trusting PTI, recalling that the party has a track record of derailing dialogue processes in the past.
He further criticized PTI for what he described as sacrificing the interests of an entire province for the sake of one person. Faisal Karim Kundi stated that PTI should shift its focus toward the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who continue to suffer due to poor governance and political instability. He recalled that during his 16-month tenure, efforts were made to bring coalition partners and PTI to the negotiating table, but those attempts were followed by the events of May 9, which further poisoned the political environment.
Reiterating PPP’s long-standing position, the governor said his party believes political problems should be resolved by politicians through dialogue and constitutional means. However, he accused PTI’s leadership of adopting a contradictory approach, where calls for negotiations are made on one hand while provocative statements about marching on Islamabad are issued on the other, further escalating tensions.
Faisal Karim Kundi also questioned the internal decision-making structure of PTI, asking the party to first determine where real authority lies within its ranks. He pointed to a visible lack of trust among PTI leaders and claimed that the party is now relying on so-called imported leaders. He cited names proposed for the opposition leadership, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas, and remarked that even within PTI there is uncertainty about the political relevance and longevity of these figures. Imran Khan Will Serve Full Sentence, No Talks on Release: KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, he concluded, reflects the state’s firm stance that accountability and rule of law cannot be compromised for political convenience.
