A high-level Iran delegation reached Islamabad on Friday night for important talks with US officials. The visit comes at a critical time as efforts continue to ease tensions after a fragile ceasefire brokered by Pakistan.
The Iran delegation is led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi along with senior officials. Pakistani leadership warmly received the visiting team, signaling the importance of these discussions.
Sources say the Iran delegation will begin formal talks after certain conditions are met. Tehran has stressed the need to stop Israeli military actions in Lebanon before moving forward.
The size of the Iran delegation reflects the seriousness of the situation. Around 70 members are part of the team, including economic experts, security officials, and technical advisers. Key figures such as the central bank governor and senior defence officials are also present.
Meanwhile, a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance is expected to arrive in Islamabad soon. Both sides will focus on major issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.
The United Nations has urged both countries to use this opportunity for dialogue. Officials believe these talks could help prevent further conflict and bring stability to the region.
Pakistan is playing a central role in bringing both sides to the table. The coming days are seen as crucial for shaping the future of peace efforts in the Middle East.
