ISLAMABAD: A special judge of central Islamabad has ordered the release of YouTuber and journalist Asad Toor, approving his bail plea and directing him to submit surety bonds worth Rs 5,000.
The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) special prosecutor informed the court that he had no objection to the bail plea.
Previously, a judicial magistrate had sent Asad Toor to jail on judicial remand in a case involving allegations against institutions and civil servants. Despite Asad Toor’s plea seeking discharge from the case being rejected, the judicial magistrate also denied an extension of his physical remand.
Toor was initially remanded on February 27, with directions to appear again on March 3, 2024. The FIR against him alleges that he conducted a malicious campaign against the judiciary on social media platforms, including YouTube, and fueled anti-state activities, resulting in charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.
