Gilgit: Khyber TV anchor Shabana Liaqat, her husband, and their three children are feared dead after being swept away by a devastating Babusar flash flood on July 21. The tragic incident has shaken the media community and raised concerns over safety on Babusar Road during the monsoon season.
Local volunteers involved in the search operation discovered a wallet buried in the debris. The wallet contained identification cards of Sapna Liaqat and her husband, along with some cash. This evidence confirmed that the missing family was caught in the Babusar flash flood.
No contact has been made with any family member for over a week. According to Diamer authorities, the number of people missing due to the Babusar flash flood has reached seven, with fears that the figure could rise above ten. Search operations entered their seventh day with rescue teams and locals continuing their efforts under harsh weather conditions.
The recovered wallet, belonging to Sapna Liaqat’s son Aimal Khan, also contained the ID cards of both his parents. A video of the discovery, shared by young journalist Essa Khan Danish on social media, has brought the heartbreaking incident into the public eye.
Sapna Liaqat, also known as Shabana Liaqat, was returning from Skardu with her family when their vehicle was reportedly swept away by the powerful floodwaters. Authorities believe the tragedy occurred as the family attempted to navigate the treacherous Babusar Road during heavy rainfall.
As the Babusar flash flood death toll rises, hope fades for the missing anchor and her family. Search operations continue, but the chances of survival are increasingly slim.
