Pakistan beat West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test at the Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday, squaring the two-match series at 1-1. Chasing a modest target of 75, Babar Azam’s side cruised home in 23.3 overs, losing just their two opening batters along the way.
The win represents Pakistan’s first Test victory away from home since 2023, when they last triumphed on Sri Lankan soil.
How Pakistan Chased Down the Target
Play resumed on Day 4 with Pakistan requiring only 18 more runs, and the visitors wrapped things up in the sixth over after lunch when Babar Azam struck consecutive sixes off Jomel Warrican to finish the match in style.
The chase wasn’t entirely smooth. Jayden Seales removed opener Imam-ul-Haq for nine, caught behind at slip, inside the first five overs with the score at 15. Abdullah Shafique then combined with young opener Azan Awais for a 27-run stand before Shamar Joseph bowled Awais for 18.
That brought Babar to the crease, and he steadied the innings alongside Shafique, guiding Pakistan comfortably to victory. Shafique finished unbeaten on 24 from 51 balls, matching Babar’s own unbeaten 24, which included two sixes and two boundaries. Notably, Shafique had also top-scored in the first innings with an unbeaten 160.
West Indies’ Second Innings Collapse
Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed their second innings at 103 for six, with all-rounder Justin Greaves at the crease. The hosts could only add 14 more runs before being bowled out, with top-order batter Brandon King unable to bat due to a lower-back injury sustained the previous day.
Left-arm spinner Usman, who had ended Day 3 by dismissing West Indies captain Roston Chase off the final ball, picked up where he left off by removing Kemar Roach for a duck early in the session. Greaves and Shamar Joseph then put on a brief 12-run stand for the eighth wicket before both fell in successive overs to Mohammad Ali and Usman, leaving West Indies all out for 117 in 46.1 overs.
Spinners Sajid and Usman were the standout performers with the ball, each claiming four wickets in the second innings, while pacer Mohammad Ali picked up one wicket.
With this result, Pakistan beat West Indies to level the series heading into the series decider, marking a much-needed away win for a side that had struggled outside home conditions since 2023.
