KARACHI: Co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former president Asif Ali Zardari expressed optimism about the country’s progress toward free, fair, and transparent elections.
Zardari affirmed the PPP’s readiness to participate in the upcoming general elections and conveyed confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) capability to conduct the elections successfully.
Asserting the PPP’s adaptability to various political environments, Zardari stated that the party is well-prepared for the electoral contest and anticipates emerging as the majority party on February 8. He emphasized the current favorable conditions in the country for holding elections and reiterated the importance of conducting them on schedule.
Meanwhile, PPP leaders have criticized the performance of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) during the 16-month tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government. With the announcement of general elections on February 8 by the ECP, former allies within the PDM have transformed into political rivals.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has openly criticized PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif in public gatherings and press conferences, marking a shift in their political dynamics.
On the other side, PML-N senior leader Rana Sanaullah affirmed the party’s energetic electoral campaign in Punjab, stating that the PML-N has multiple candidates in each constituency.
Sanaullah predicted the party securing up to 125 seats in Punjab and announced the commencement of parliamentary board meetings, presided over by Nawaz Sharif, to strategize for the elections.
