Severe snowfall and extreme winter conditions have brought daily life in the United States to a standstill, with at least 65 people killed in weather-related incidents across multiple states.
According to US authorities, a powerful cold wave continues to grip eastern parts of the country, pushing temperatures well below freezing and creating hazardous conditions. In Chicago, temperatures dropped to minus 14 degrees Celsius, while Cleveland recorded minus 11 degrees Celsius.
Intermittent snowfall in Tennessee and Mississippi has made roads dangerously slippery, leading to a surge in traffic accidents. The harsh weather has also disrupted power supply, leaving more than 100,000 consumers without electricity.
Flight operations have been badly affected, with delays and cancellations reported at several major airports, causing inconvenience for thousands of passengers.
Weather officials warned that the severe conditions are expected to persist over the next few days and advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety guidelines.
