Jerusalem: Thousands of Muslims gathered at Al-Aqsa Mosque to offer the first Taraweeh prayers of Ramadan, defying Israeli restrictions and obstacles, according to international media reports.
As soon as the Ramadan crescent was announced, worshippers made their way to the holy site near Dome of the Rock, filling the mosque and its courtyards. Rows of devotees stretched across the prayer halls, while large crowds also gathered around the golden-domed shrine. The Isha and Taraweeh prayers were led by Imam and Khateeb Sheikh Yusuf Abu Sneineh.
Despite a ceasefire declaration, wounds from the recent Gaza conflict remain fresh, and increasing operations in the occupied West Bank have further challenged Palestinians.
The Jerusalem Governorate had earlier warned that Israeli authorities were creating obstacles for Ramadan preparations. However, the faithful continued to attend prayers, demonstrating resilience and devotion despite restrictions.
