Rising Incidence of Bus Accidents in Pakistan
Bus accidents are alarmingly frequent in Pakistan due to a combination of driver error, poor road conditions, and adverse weather. The tragic incident near Fateh Jang is the latest in a series of such events.
- Last Month: A speeding bus carrying wedding guests plunged off the Telchi Bridge into the Indus River in Gilgit-Baltistan, killing 14. Remarkably, two passengers, including the bride, were rescued.
- September: Six lives were lost, and 20 were injured when a bus fell into a ditch in the Danasar area of Sherani, Balochistan.
- August: A bus traveling from Haveli Kahuta to Rawalpindi fell into a ditch near Pana Bridge, claiming 25 lives. In another incident, eight people were killed, and seven were injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a trailer truck on the Sukkur-Multan motorway in Ghotki.
These recurring tragedies highlight the dire need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, better road safety measures, and driver training programs to prevent further loss of life on Pakistan’s roads.
