Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a harsh warning to Iran. He threatened more military strikes if Tehran restarts its nuclear programme. His message was posted on Friday on Truth Social, his personal social media platform.
Trump’s remarks came in response to recent comments by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei had declared “victory” over the United States in the 12-day war with Israel. Trump called the Iranian leader’s statement “a blatant and foolish lie.” He added that the U.S. and Israel had already “obliterated” three major nuclear sites in Iran.
According to Trump, these attacks destroyed atomic facilities at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. He also claimed he stopped a final strike that could have targeted Khamenei directly. Trump stated he knew Khamenei’s exact location but chose not to act on it.
Khamenei made his remarks earlier this week after a ceasefire ended the Israel-Iran conflict. He claimed Iran had “slapped America in the face” by hitting a U.S. base in Qatar. He described the outcome as a win for Iran, saying the country emerged stronger from the escalation.
Trump dismissed these claims. He called them full of “hatred, anger, and disgust.” He added that the Supreme Leader’s words forced him to end any chance of sanctions relief or diplomatic efforts with Tehran.
Military Threat Reaffirmed
At a press briefing on the same day, Trump was asked if military action remained an option. He replied clearly: “Sure, without question, absolutely.” This warning heightened global concern over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Following the airstrikes earlier this month, Iran’s parliament passed a law to halt cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This step effectively blocked international inspectors from accessing bombed nuclear sites.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded on X (formerly Twitter). He stated that Tehran may reject future inspection requests from the IAEA. He accused Director General Rafael Grossi of having “malign intent” and said his demands were “meaningless.”
Araghchi said Iran reserves the right to defend its people, its interests, and its sovereignty. Meanwhile, Grossi stressed that restoring inspection access remained his top goal. No IAEA visits have occurred since the Israeli strikes began on June 13.
Israel’s Military Alert
On the same day, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued orders to the military. He asked them to prepare an “enforcement plan” to counter threats from Iran. The plan focuses on preserving air superiority, preventing missile production, and disrupting Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Israel continues to accuse Iran of supporting militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Iranian officials insist their nuclear pursuits are peaceful. They deny any efforts to build nuclear weapons.
