United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF), at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on 7 October 2026. What Guterres and Asim Munir Discussed
The two leaders covered matters of mutual interest, the current regional security situation and the role of the United Nations in supporting international peace and security. They also traded views on regional stability, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and terrorism originating from Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Role in UN Peacekeeping
Field Marshal Asim Munir restated Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and pointed to the country’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions. He also praised the UN’s work under Guterres in promoting peace, stability and humanitarian cooperation.
UN Chief Praises Pakistan’s Sacrifices
The UN Secretary-General paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Pakistan and its armed forces in the war on terror and in UN peacekeeping operations. He acknowledged the country’s ongoing commitment to international peace and security.
Guterres also singled out Pakistan’s efforts to resolve regional conflicts peacefully, expressing his appreciation for its approach.
