PTI leader Atif Khan has confirmed that he was invited to a meeting with a visiting US Congressional delegation at the US Embassy in Islamabad. He stated that the gathering included politicians from several parties, not just PTI.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Atif Khan said the US Congressional delegation had extended the invitation to political leaders from across the board. “This was not a PTI-specific event,” he clarified. “I attended the meeting along with Dr. Amjad.”
He further shared that several senior PTI figures were also invited. These included Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Omer Ayub, Aamir Dogar, and Salman Akram Raja. However, none of them attended the meeting despite receiving official invitations from the US mission, according to Atif Khan.
Khan noted that during the meeting, the US Congressional delegation spoke about Pakistan’s critical position on the world stage. They highlighted the country’s importance due to its strategic location and its massive youth population.
“Pakistan is the fifth most populous country globally, and 60% of its people are youth,” he quoted the delegates as saying. “This makes Pakistan a country with immense future potential.”
Atif Khan said the session aimed to build diplomatic understanding. The American lawmakers sought insights into Pakistan’s political landscape, the regional environment, and the status of its democratic institutions.
In a related development, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan offered a clarification on a TV show. He denied attending any such meeting and said he did not receive an invitation from the US Congressional delegation. He acknowledged Atif Khan’s presence at a reception but stressed the need to avoid politicizing the issue.
