The winter gas supply schedule has been announced for domestic consumers as Pakistan faces increasing pressure on its gas supply system due to rising demand and declining LNG availability.
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) have introduced fixed gas supply timings for households during the winter season.
Under the schedule, domestic consumers will receive gas during three daily periods: 6:30am to 9am, 12pm to 2:30pm and 6pm to 9pm.
SSGC said the decision follows federal government instructions and aims to ensure gas availability during household cooking hours. The company added that domestic consumers would remain its priority during the winter months.
Meanwhile, SNGPL has introduced similar restrictions in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, effective Wednesday. The company cited reduced LNG availability and increasing winter demand as the main reasons behind the restrictions.
The gas utility has also reduced supplies to the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector from 50 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to 35 mmcfd. Supplies to the sector could be suspended completely in the coming days.
The cement industry has already shifted to coal to meet its energy requirements, while industrial consumers connected to the distribution network are also facing reduced gas supplies.
Industries directly connected to the transmission network, including export-oriented and non-export sectors, are currently receiving around 200 mmcfd. However, further cuts remain possible.
The power sector is receiving approximately 140 mmcfd, while the fertiliser industry is being supplied around 53 mmcfd.
The restrictions reflect growing pressure on Pakistan’s gas supply system as authorities attempt to manage limited resources and prioritise household consumption during the winter season.
