ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq expressed dissatisfaction with the report submitted by the joint interior secretary regarding the closure of X service. The report stated that the X service had been shut down based on security agencies’ recommendations.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that the report is inadequate and t even his se secretary could produce a better one.
In the midst of the proceedings, the joint interior secretary informed the court that the decision to shut down the X service was based on recommendations from security agencies. Chief Justice Farooq insisted on detailed written explanations rather than verbal statements, stressing the importance of clarity regarding any security threats posed by the service.
In response, the joint interior secretary cited concerns about national security arising from the content uploaded on the internet. However, the Chief Justice remained unconvinced, criticizing the report for lacking specific reasons and dismissing it as speculative.
“I could give a better speech. You shut down X service based on a report from the Intelligence Bureau,” remarked the Chief Justice.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the matter, Chief Justice Farooq highlighted the absence of coherent decision-making and accused various institutions of harboring malicious intentions. He also referred to ongoing cases in other courts related to the X service, stating, “Let’s see who manages to get it unblocked first.”
“What more can I say? The government seems exhausted and incapable of functioning. There is dishonesty prevalent in every institution,” remarked the Chief Justice.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing until April 17 and summoned the interior secretary in his personal capacity after Eid.
