Lahore: In a major boost for youth employment, Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has approved a monthly stipend of PKR 70,000 for agriculture interns under the “Own Farm, Own Livelihood” program.

For the first time in Punjab, a rooftop hydroponics project will be introduced. On a standard 2-marla rooftop, around 280 to 350 plants can be cultivated using polythene sheets and specially designed structures, enabling over 10 different vegetable varieties to grow in limited urban spaces.
Additionally, 10 pilot projects will be launched in Lahore, with collaborations planned with local housing societies.
To make agriculture environmentally friendly, the province has approved a solarization scheme for 10,000 diesel tube wells. Meanwhile, the Punjab Agriculture Mechanization Project aims to provide 28,000 super seeders by 2028.
The CM Green Tractor Program has entered its fourth phase. Subsidies for high-horsepower tractors will be PKR 1.5 million, while low-horsepower tractors will receive PKR 500,000 to 700,000.
Punjab will also see the launch of the On-Farm Rainwater Harvesting Project, including ground recharge wells to store rainwater for sustainable farming practices.
This initiative is expected to provide stable employment opportunities for youth, encourage modern farming techniques, and strengthen food security in the province.
