Security forces have killed 27 militants in an operation in North Waziristan’s Miran Shah area over the past 72 hours, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to the military’s media wing, the action was part of ongoing intelligence-based operations in the region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces engaged multiple militant hideouts during the operation.
The ISPR said that after intense exchanges of fire, 27 militants were killed in what it described as continued counter-terror efforts in the area.
It added that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed militants, who were involved in various terrorist activities and targeted killings of civilians.
The statement said the operation avenged the killing of prominent local figure Malik Saifullah Dawar in Miran Shah, adding that those responsible had been eliminated.
Pakistan has seen a rise in militant violence since 2021, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security operations have increased in response to the threat.
In recent years, border tensions have also escalated, with cross-border incidents and militant activity affecting security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier.
Despite diplomatic engagement attempts, authorities say concerns remain over the presence and activity of militant groups operating in the region.
