Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Omar Ayub Khan came out of hiding after six months, a day after his father, the former foreign minister of the country, Gohar Ayub Khan, passed away.
Omar Ayub Khan arrived in Rehana, Haripur, on Saturday, to attend his father’s funeral.
This is his first public appearance in months as he had been hiding evade arrest after being implicated in multiple cases related to May 9’s violent protests.
He is among a handful of PTI leaders who have managed to evade arrest so far and have still not quit the party. He had also been declared an absconder in several cases.
He was made the party’s secretary general after Asad Umar quit his position a few days after the May 9 incidents.
Although, he has regularly posted on X (Twitter), he was not seen in public or attended any political events.
He had announced the death of his father through a post on X as well and added that the funeral would take place in Rehana at 3pm on Saturday.
Omar had joined the PTI in 2018, just months before the party went on to win a general election and form government. He served as minister for petroleum, energy and economic affairs under Imran Khan.
Gohar Ayub Khan, a fomer foreign minister and speaker of the National Assembly, was the son of former dictator Ayub Khan.
He had been active in politics till 1999.
He passed away in a private hospital in Islamabad after a brief illness.
