BADIN: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and former Foreign Minister, has emphasized that elections should be held within 90 days as per constitutional requirements.
Speaking to the media during his visit to different areas of Sindh for condolence with party leaders, he stated that the election schedule has not been announced yet. To a question about Asif Ali Zardari’s statement in support of the ECP regarding delimitation, the PPP chairman said that he was bound by the party’s CEC’s decision, adding that he is bound to follow Zardari’s directives on domestic issues, but political and constitutional matters decided by the CEC of the party. He told journalist to ask Asif Ali Zardari about his statement.
Bilawal said that the next CEC’s meeting will be held at Lahore and if someone has different opinion, he should present his view in the CEC meeting. Regarding the CEC meeting, he mentioned that there was a discussion on two opinions. Everyone agreed that elections should be held within 90 days as per the constitution. Decisions of the CEC are binding, and the next CEC meeting will be held in Lahore. If there are any other opinions, they will be discussed in the CEC meeting.
He noted the warm reception the PPP has received in various regions, suggesting that it’s evident the people are aligned with the PPP in local body elections.
He stressed the current difficulties faced by the people, with the economic situation deteriorating day by day. He highlighted the challenges of paying children’s school fees and how people are struggling to manage their electricity bills.
The former Foreign Minister stated that the PPP’s manifesto addresses the issues faced by ordinary people, and the party has consistently tackled economic crises during its tenure in power. He expressed confidence that the PPP is well-prepared for the upcoming elections and will once again be successful. Bilawal emphasized that solving national issues cannot be done overnight and requires experienced leadership. In PPP’s government, ordinary people receive relief.
He called on the people to support the PPP and stressed the need for young leadership. Bilawal Bhutto asserted that the PPP is the only choice capable of addressing challenges instead of resorting to blame games. He argued that the people have seen all parties in power and that rather than blame-shifting and divisions, they want solutions. He believed that only young leadership can solve these issues.
Bilawal Bhutto stated that if electricity, the dollar exchange rate, and petrol prices can be reduced through force, there would be no objections. He emphasized that it’s not a caretaker government but elected representatives who can solve people’s problems, and the solution to all problems lies in democracy. He added that there are no objections to a caretaker government as long as it performs its duties, but it should not become chair-taker.
He concluded by saying that it’s a time of historic inflation, and instead of hatred and blame games, it’s time to move forward. He reiterated the importance of adhering to the 90-day timeline for elections, the decisions of the CEC, and the orders of the people.
