The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) recently thwarted a potential attack on JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and ANP chief Aimal Wali Khan, arresting two would-be bombers.
In response, JUI-F expressed concern, urging enhanced security for its leadership during the upcoming election campaign.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, while stating they hadn’t received specific instructions, asserted increased security for those facing threats.
JUI-F sought additional security from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after the arrests. Earlier, a security advisory had been issued to former minister Maulana Asad Mahmood.
The CTD disclosed that the arrested terrorists, linked to Daesh, were trained in Afghanistan and had planned attacks on senior politicians, gathering information from Peshawar’s Mufti Mahmood Markaz.
Authorities had previously alerted nationwide police to heighten security for Fazl and Aimal Wali Khan in response to reported threats.
