Gwadar Port has witnessed a major increase in maritime activity as another transshipment vessel successfully docked at the facility, carrying cargo from Abu Dhabi and Kuwait. The development highlights growing international interest in Gwadar Port, which is steadily emerging as a key regional trade hub.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry confirmed the arrival of the vessel MV Yuan Hai Wei, which safely berthed at Gwadar Port on Monday. He said the ship is carrying around 34,000 tons of bulk cargo along with 20,000 tons of additional goods.
According to officials, the cargo destined for Abu Dhabi and Kuwait is being offloaded at Gwadar Port, marking another step in expanding transshipment operations. The minister stated that the successful docking reflects increasing trust from global shipping companies in Pakistan’s deep-sea facility.
He added that Gwadar Port is quickly gaining importance as a regional trade center, attracting more international maritime traffic due to improved services and strategic location.
In a bid to further boost activity, the federal government has also announced major tariff reductions at Gwadar Port. Berthing fees have been cut by 25 percent, while transshipment container charges have been reduced by 40 percent. Container cargo port charges have also been lowered by up to 31 percent.
In addition, general cargo will now be stored free of cost for up to one month, a move aimed at encouraging more shipping companies to use Gwadar Port for trade operations.
Authorities believe these incentives will further strengthen Gwadar Port as a competitive hub for international shipping and regional trade connectivity.
