Pakistan has achieved a key development in the ongoing Indus Waters Treaty dispute with India, as an international arbitration court has directed India to submit operational records related to hydro-power projects built on rivers allocated to Pakistan.
According to the arbitration court, India is required to submit the operational log books of the Baglihar and Kishanganga hydro-power projects by February 9.
The court clarified that if India fails to provide the required documents by the deadline, it will have to submit an official explanation for the delay or non-compliance.
Pakistan asked to clarify required documents
The arbitration court has also instructed Pakistan to clarify by February 2 what specific documents and information it requires from India regarding these projects.
Following this, the second phase hearing of the case will be held on February 2 and 3 in The Hague, Netherlands, where both sides are expected to present further arguments and evidence.
The decision is being seen as a significant step for Pakistan in seeking transparency over the operation of hydro-power projects that Islamabad believes could impact water flows under the Indus Waters Treaty framework.
