Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, accompanied by the Inspector General of Islamabad, visited D-Chowk to evaluate the worsening security situation in the capital. In a press briefing, Naqvi voiced his concerns over the unrest, particularly highlighting the unexpected involvement of Afghan nationals among the protestors.
Naqvi revealed that 120 Afghan citizens were arrested in the past 48 hours and questioned their presence in what seemed to be a local political protest. “If the protestors are supposed to be our own people, why are there Afghans present?” he asked.
He also condemned the violent actions of the demonstrators, who reportedly opened fire on police forces, injuring 85 officers. Naqvi criticized the incident, accusing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s convoy of exacerbating the situation, and stated that the government will not tolerate attacks on law enforcement.
