MINSK – Pakistan and Belarus have agreed to expand military cooperation as both countries move to deepen their strategic relationship.
The decision came during the recent visit of Pakistan Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu to Belarus, where officials discussed a wide range of defence initiatives under a 2025–2027 cooperation roadmap.
The two sides agreed to boost joint defence production, promote technology transfer and increase military collaboration. The proposed areas of cooperation include advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), microelectronics, optronics and heavy military vehicles.
Pakistan and Belarus also discussed a proposal to provide Belarusian pilots with basic and tactical flight training through the Pakistan Air Force.
Defence analyst Rear Admiral (Retd.) Faisal Shah said the relationship between the two countries has grown significantly since Belarus became a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). He said cooperation now extends beyond diplomatic ties to the industrial and defence sectors.
According to the analyst, the latest developments could open the door to wider defence collaboration involving Pakistan, Belarus and Russia. He added that the partnership could also support Pakistan’s long-term goal of achieving greater self-reliance in the defence industry.
