Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) appears to be heading toward a fresh wave of turmoil as its Secretary General, Salman Akram Raja, has decided to resign from his position. His possible departure from both the party and active politics reflects the widening cracks, bitter infighting, and unchecked grouping within PTI.
Reports suggest Raja was pushed to the edge by the humiliating behavior of Bushra Bibi and the harsh remarks of Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan. Once a close legal ally of the Khan family, Raja is now disillusioned and unwilling to tolerate the internal hostility. Sources indicate he intends to focus solely on his legal career, abandoning the political chaos that has cost him financially and personally.
PTI insiders confirm the party is in a severe state of breakdown. The battle for control between Bushra Bibi and Aleema Khan has escalated, splitting senior leadership into rival camps. Salman Akram Raja had sided with Aleema, but the mounting internal bitterness has now forced him out.
The resignation has also intensified the debate over who will become the new Secretary General. Sardar Latif Khosa has emerged as a strong contender, signaling more realignments within PTI. Meanwhile, Hammad Azhar’s withdrawal from Lahore’s NA-129 has already given PML-N an edge in the upcoming by-election.
Even Imran Khan’s family affairs have become part of the political storm. Jemima Goldsmith’s anxious tweet over the arrest of Aleema’s sons and the halt in Imran’s sons’ visits to Pakistan underscore the chaos surrounding the party’s inner circle.
When asked by journalists about his resignation during an appearance in Rawalpindi, Salman Akram Raja avoided direct answers. He dismissed questions with a curt “no comments,” further fueling speculation.
The resignation of Raja marks not just the exit of a prominent figure but also the exposure of PTI’s deepening cracks. With constant factionalism, leadership battles, and disillusionment among loyalists, PTI seems to be fast losing its grip on unity and direction.
