LAHORE: Counter terrorism force in Punjab claimed to have arrested 33 suspected terrorists including a key member of the global terrorist group Al-Qaeda during a series of secret operations across various cities in the province on Saturday.
According to CTD officials, among those detained are six suspected terrorists arrested in Lahore.
One of the detainees is identified as a key member of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. Additional arrests were made in Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, and Sheikhupura.
The suspects apprehended in Lahore include Ayatullah, Faisal, Bakht Jamal, and Hamza.
Authorities recovered a substantial cache of explosive materials, weapons, hand grenades, equipment for making suicide vests, and a significant amount of money from the group.
The suspects were reportedly plotting to target sensitive installations in the region.
The CTD has filed cases against them and is continuing to investigate to uncover the full extent of their plans and identify any additional accomplices.
Earlier today, Pakistan Army media affairs wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement that security forces have killed a group of four suicide bombers who attempted to attack a Frontier Corps headquarters in a northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the incident occurred in the early hours of September 6, 2024, when the group of four militants tried to breach the camp.
The ISPR emphasized that Pakistan’s security forces remain steadfast in their mission to eradicate terrorism from the country.
Earlier on August 30, the security forces have killed 12 terrorists in extensive intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Tirah Valley, Khyber District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on August 28 and 29, the security forces engaged “Khawarji” locations in the valley where an intense exchange of fire took place between own troops and terrorists.
