Punjab flood conditions have escalated this monsoon season as heavy rainfall pushes water levels higher across several major rivers, prompting authorities to keep a close watch on multiple locations throughout the province.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab confirmed that low-level flooding has emerged along stretches of both the Indus and Chenab rivers. On the Indus, water flow at Tarbela has climbed to 336,000 cusecs, while the Chashma barrage is recording 302,000 cusecs.
Chenab and Ravi Rivers Under Watch
Low flood conditions are also present along the Chenab River at Marala and Qadirabad, according to the PDMA. Flow measurements stood at 195,000 cusecs at Marala, 262,000 cusecs at Khanki, and 245,000 cusecs at Qadirabad.
Elsewhere, the Sutlej and Jhelum rivers are holding steady at normal levels, the authority noted. The Ravi River is currently flowing at approximately 73,000 cusecs at Balloki, with normal readings also recorded at Jassar, Shahdara, and Head Sidhhnai along the same river.
In addition to the major waterways, medium-level flooding has struck the Basantar stream in Narowal district. Low-level flooding has also been reported at Nallah Bhimber in Gujrat and Nallah Palkhu in Wazirabad, adding to the list of areas under observation.
The PDMA’s director general attributed the rising river flows to sustained rainfall in the upper catchment areas, which has fed directly into the province’s river systems. As monsoon rains continue, Punjab flood conditions are expected to remain a key focus for disaster management authorities monitoring the situation across affected districts.
