Heavy rain and snowfall in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Kashmir have raised the risk of flash floods, as a strong western weather system moves across the country’s upper regions.
According to weather authorities, the powerful system is expected to affect northern areas from today until January 24, bringing widespread rain and snowfall to KP and Kashmir.
Officials warned that due to the ongoing weather conditions, there is a high risk of flash flooding in the Kabul River and its tributaries, particularly in mountainous and river-fed regions.
The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has issued alerts for several districts, including Swat, Chitral, Dir, Malakand, and Mansehra, advising local administrations to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has directed KP provincial and district authorities to stay on high alert and closely monitor vulnerable and sensitive locations.
In addition, the weather system is also expected to bring rain and snowfall to most districts of Balochistan starting today.
