QUETTA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti has been elected as the Chief Minister of Balochistan unopposed as no other contestant had submitted nomination papers for the slot.
Sarfraz Bugti, who served as the former caretaker interior minister, submitted four nomination papers for the position to the Election Commission of Pakistan office. He resigned from the caretaker post and parted ways with Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) before joining the PPP.
With no competitors stepping forward by the 5 pm deadline, Bugti became the sole contender for the esteemed position of Chief Minister. Upon filing his nomination papers, he expressed gratitude and determination to tackle corruption and restore law and order in Balochistan, recognizing the gravity of these challenges.
Bugti conveyed appreciation to the party leadership for their trust and backing, vowing to uphold the Pakistan People’s Party’s values and principles during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Having previously served as a member of the upper house of parliament following his election in September 2018, Bugti’s past roles also include serving as the home minister of Balochistan in the 2013 Assembly.
