Six terrorists killed in Lakki Marwat during a fierce exchange of fire with a Counter-Terrorism Department team conducting an intelligence-based operation in the Shagayi area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Officials said the militants opened fire as soon as they spotted the police team. The sudden attack triggered a gun battle that lasted nearly 40 minutes. Security personnel responded quickly and surrounded the area to stop the militants from escaping.
After the firing stopped, the team launched a search operation across the nearby fields and hideouts. During the search, officers found six militants dead at the scene. Authorities have started the process to identify the terrorists.
Police also recovered a large cache of weapons from the militants. The seized items included four Kalashnikov rifles, two pistols, eight hand grenades and an improvised explosive device. Security officials believe the militants planned attacks in the region.
Senior police leadership praised the team for carrying out the successful operation. The provincial police chief commended the officers for their courage and quick response during the encounter.
He said security forces will continue operations against militants hiding in remote areas. He also stressed that the sacrifices of security personnel will not be forgotten and that the fight against terrorism will continue until peace returns to the region.
Security operations have increased in recent years as cross-border militant activity has grown along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border. Militants often attempt to regroup in border districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Pakistan has intensified action against militant networks through ongoing security campaigns, including Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. Authorities say these efforts target militant hideouts and supply routes linked to attacks inside the country.
Officials maintain that security forces will continue to track and eliminate terrorist groups threatening stability in the region.
