RAWALPINDI: Two Pak Army soldiers, including an army officer, were martyred in an IED explosion during an operation in Harnai district, Balochistan, the military’s media wing confirmed on Thursday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that security forces were immediately deployed in the area following intelligence reports about terrorist activity. The terrorists were believed to be planning attacks against civilians in Harnai.
During the operation, the army forces engaged the terrorists’ positions and successfully killed three of them. However, as the operation was underway, an improvised explosive device detonated on the lead vehicle, resulting in the martyrdom of Major Muhammad Haseeb (28) from Multan, who was leading his troops on the ground. Alongside him, Havildar Noor Ahmed (38) from Barkhan also made the ultimate sacrifice. Both soldiers displayed exceptional courage throughout the operation.
The ISPR statement paid tribute to their bravery, stating: “Major Haseeb and Havildar Noor Ahmed fought valiantly and embraced Shahadat while serving their country.”
The statement also emphasized the determination of the security forces, reiterating their commitment to safeguarding Balochistan’s peace and progress. “We will not allow any forces to disrupt the stability of Balochistan. The sacrifices of our brave soldiers only strengthen our resolve to protect our homeland,” the ISPR added.
This attack is part of a broader surge in terrorist activity across Pakistan, particularly in the regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. The country has faced a growing number of such attacks in recent months.
Just last week, a suicide bombing at a railway station in Quetta killed at least 27 people and wounded more than 60 others.
Recent statistics from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) revealed a sharp rise in fatalities from terrorist violence and counter-terrorism operations. In the third quarter of 2024, there was a 90% increase in such incidents, with 722 people killed and 615 injured in 328 reported incidents. The vast majority of these casualties—nearly 97%—occurred in KP and Balochistan.
Despite the rising threat, Pakistan’s military continues to confront these challenges head-on, with courage and determination. The sacrifices of soldiers like Major Haseeb and Havildar Noor Ahmed stand as a testament to the unwavering resolve of the Pakistan Army to defend the nation and its people from the scourge of terrorism.
We honor the bravery and sacrifice of Pakistan’s soldiers, whose dedication ensures the safety and security of the country. Their courage and commitment to protecting the peace of Balochistan and Pakistan will never be forgotten.
