A final promise to stand together, a dangerous mission, and an unwavering commitment to duty define the legacy of DSP Imranuddin Khan, a senior counterterrorism officer who lost his life fighting militants in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His death, alongside three fellow police personnel, has once again highlighted the sacrifices made by the KP Police in the battle against terrorism.
A video circulating on social media captures the officer addressing his team before an operation. Warning his colleagues about the dangers ahead, he makes it clear that anyone choosing to join must be prepared to face the consequences and remain committed until the very end.
The footage shows the determination with which Imranuddin led his men into dangerous territory, reflecting the risks regularly faced by police officers working on the front lines of Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations.
Karak Operation Claims Lives of Four KP Police Personnel
DSP Imranuddin Khan, Sub-Inspector Afzal Awan, CTD officer Kazim and Bomb Disposal Unit personnel Amjad were killed during an armed encounter with militants in Karak district.
According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, two militants were also killed during the exchange of fire. Authorities subsequently launched search operations in the area to trace suspected militants and address security threats.
The incident began after militants reportedly established a roadblock on Chirpirah Road, within the jurisdiction of Khurram Police Station, on Wednesday night.
During the operation, police raided the residence of militant commander Qaiser Iqbal in Chirpirah. An exchange of gunfire followed, leaving two militants dead and four police personnel, including DSP Imranuddin, among the fatalities.
The incident represents another painful loss for the KP Police, whose personnel continue to confront armed militants despite the threat of ambushes, explosives and targeted attacks.
DSP Imranuddin Khan: A Life Dedicated to Fighting Terrorism
Imranuddin’s death has drawn renewed attention to a career marked by frontline service and repeated exposure to danger. Colleagues and associates remember him as an officer who preferred to lead from the front rather than remain away from the risks faced by his team.
A tribute shared by the official Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf account on X described him as a courageous and principled officer whose commitment to public safety would be remembered for years to come.
The post said Imranuddin had survived multiple assassination attempts, bomb blasts and shooting incidents during his service. Despite suffering injuries in several attacks, he continued to perform his duties.
According to the tribute, he was once offered a transfer to a safer posting following an attack. He reportedly rejected the idea, fearing that militants would interpret his departure as a sign of fear.
His decision reflected the sense of responsibility that colleagues associated with his service. For Imranuddin, protecting the public and standing alongside his fellow officers remained central to his professional life.
The 2017 Peshawar Attack That Revealed His Courage
One of the most significant episodes in Imranuddin’s career came during the 2017 terrorist attack on the Agriculture Training Institute on Peshawar’s University Road. The attackers were subsequently killed during the security operation. Imranuddin’s conduct during the incident earned him a nomination for the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal, recognising his bravery in confronting the militants.
KP Police Sacrifices Reflect the Human Cost of Counterterrorism
The death of Imranuddin and his colleagues underscores the human cost of Pakistan’s ongoing fight against militancy. Police personnel operating in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa often face threats while responding to attacks, pursuing armed groups and protecting communities in high-risk districts.
Their responsibilities extend beyond routine law enforcement. Counterterrorism teams must frequently respond to intelligence reports, conduct raids and enter locations where armed resistance is possible.
Imranuddin’s service illustrates the personal risks associated with these duties. His colleagues say he repeatedly accepted those risks and continued to lead operations even after previous encounters had left him injured.
His death has also renewed attention to the families who bear the consequences of such sacrifices, often coping with sudden loss while dealing with personal challenges of their own.
A Final Farewell in His Hometown of Tarangzai
DSP Imranuddin Khan belonged to Tarangzai village in Charsadda district. He was laid to rest in his hometown following funeral prayers attended by a large number of people. Imranuddin’s legacy rests not only on the operations he led or the honours for which he was nominated, but also on the example he set for those who served beside him: a willingness to stand with his team, confront danger and continue fulfilling his duty despite the risks.
