At least 23 people have died and dozens more have been injured as ongoing monsoon rains continue to batter Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, triggering roof collapses, electrocutions, and flash flooding. The downpours have also left numerous homes damaged in the hardest-hit areas.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that nine deaths occurred in Punjab as a direct result of heavy rainfall, with roof collapses and other weather-related accidents accounting for most fatalities, alongside dozens of injuries.
Punjab Toll Rises Amid Roof Collapses
In Raiwind’s Kot Babu Khan area near Lahore, one person died and three others were hurt when a house roof gave way. A separate roof collapse near Band Road in Gulshan Ravi, Lahore, left four people injured.
In Pakpattan’s village 75-D, a woman lost her life after a room’s roof collapsed, while a young man was electrocuted in nearby Hota. Gujrat recorded one death and six injuries from separate roof collapse incidents, and three more people were hurt in a similar collapse in Sialkot.
Rescue teams reported that three people died and 14 were injured across eight separate roof and wall collapse incidents in Gujranwala, while three electrocution cases in the city claimed one life and injured two others.
In Sahiwal, a woman died and three others were injured in roof-related incidents. Mandi Bahauddin saw eight injuries from separate roof and wall collapses, and one person was hurt after a shed collapsed in Bahawalnagar.
Heavy downpours also flooded roads in Pindi Bhattian, snarling traffic and complicating travel for residents, while Faisalabad, Bhalwal, and Jhang experienced heavy rain that left several low-lying neighborhoods underwater. The PDMA noted that this monsoon spell is expected to persist across Punjab until July 24.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Reports Separate Casualties
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority reported 14 deaths and 19 injuries from rain-related incidents across the province. Among the deceased were six men, six children, and two women, while those injured included 11 men, four women, and four children.
The authority said 28 homes sustained damage from the heavy rains and flash flooding, with six destroyed entirely and 22 partially damaged. Affected areas included Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Lower Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Torghar, Kurram, and North Waziristan.
A PDMA spokesperson said relief efforts remain underway across all affected districts, supported by Rescue 1122 and local administrations. Officials added that river and stream water levels across the province are currently within normal range, though intermittent rainfall is expected to continue through July 23.
As the death toll from these monsoon rains continues to climb across both provinces, authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious as the weather system persists.
