Islamabad: Former Pakistan cricket captain and star all-rounder Shahid Afridi has permanently moved from Karachi to Islamabad, citing personal reasons behind the decision.
Speaking at his new residence in Islamabad, Afridi said he wants to see Pakistan progress as a fast-developing nation, adding that continuity in policies and institutions is the most critical factor for long-term growth.
Confirming his relocation, Afridi stated that he shifted to Islamabad due to certain personal considerations and has now settled there on a permanent basis.
The former captain said that Pakistan and Pakistan cricket gave him respect, recognition, and identity on the global stage, and he now wishes to give something back to the country and the sport.
Afridi clarified that he has no immediate plans to enter politics, stressing that the government should be allowed to complete its five-year constitutional term. He also emphasized that key constitutional offices, including the Chief Justice and the Army Chief, should be allowed to complete their designated tenures.
He revealed that he had received offers for important government positions in the past, but chose to stay away, saying ceremonial or symbolic roles do not attract him.
Afridi said that continuity in policies, democratic processes, and constitutional tenures of state institutions forms the foundation of national development. He added that when institutions complete their terms, policies remain stable, allowing the benefits of development to reach ordinary citizens more quickly.
